What do Invisalign attachments do?

Hi

I would like to have my teeth straightened with Invisalign and a dentist that I saw for Invisalign consultation said that I will probably need six Invisalign attachments in total to straighten my teeth. He said that the Invisalign attachments are like white fillings that he puts on my teeth and later on takes them off when the job is finished. I would like to find out what Invisalign attachments do and what is the point of having so many attachments? Is there a way for the treatment to be done without so many attachments?

Invisalign attachments allow the Invisalign aligners to grip teeth. The number of attachments needed is determined by the Invisalign clincheck programme although the dentist can specify any teeth that he does not wish to have Invisalign attachments.
