    Question Crown looks grey

    Hi dentist,

I'm a 31 year old women, and have a crown at the front of my mouth. When i was 15 i fell and broke the tooth. I had root canal treatment and a crown placed.

Im getting married in 6 months and i don’t like the crown. The crown looks grey, and the crown metal is visible around the edge.

Please help and let me know what i can do.

    Wink Crown looks grey

    Thank you for your post.

Metal ceramic crowns sometime look a little bit dull and if the gum recedes, then the metal margin of the crown sometimes shows.

You could consider changing the crown to an all ceramic crown with a lab shade take. The lab shade take allows the crown to be matched as closely as possible to the neighboring teeth.

Whitening the other teeth before having the crown changed is also an option, if you wish to have a whiter shade crown. Be aware though that whitening fades on natural teeth and crowns don't change colour and if you have teeth whitening, you will need to do whitening maintenance and top-ups to keep the other teeth at the same shade as the crown.
