Could I have all ceramic crowns?

Hello

My front teeth have had four metal porcelain crowns fitted ten years ago. These porcelain crowns have metal underneath them and over the last few years, the gum around these crowns has receded and now I can see the metal underneath these crowns when I smile.

I would like to change these crowns to all ceramic crowns that have no metal underneath. My question is that can a metal porcelain crown be changed to an all ceramic crown?

Are all ceramic crowns better than metal porcelain crowns? I have heard that they look better but do they last as long or are ceramic crowns as strong as metal porcelain crowns?

Thank you for your question.

There is no reason why porcelain bonded crowns which have metal cores cannot be replaced by all ceramic crowns. In actual fact many of them have been replaced in our clinic for better aesthetic. So yes your crowns can be replaced.
In terms of strength, the ceramic core of the ceramic crowns these days is just as strong as metal if not stronger but you have to remember all these crowns have a core of a type and then on top they have porcelain and all these crowns are just as strong as the strength of the porcelain in them.
