    Lightbulb Porcelain crown

    Hi

I have a porcelain crown which was fitted last year and since then, on two occasions bits of porcelain have come off the crown and now the metal bit underneath the crown is visible.

I have been to see my dentist and he says that this is due to me grinding my teeth at night. I have asked my partner and she says that she does not think that I gring at night.

I would like to know what other possible reasons there could be for the porcelain chipping off my porcelain crown. Are all porcelain crowns like this or have I just had bad luck with my crown. Should I ask my dentist to replace the crown with a different type of dental crown?

    Talking Porcelain crown

Porcelain can sometimes chip off a porcelain crown, several possible reasons come to my mind, they are:

    1. That you clench or grind your teeth at night, as your dentist has suggested.

    2. The porcelain was too thin in the first place, this places the porcelain more at risk of fracture.

    3. Manufacturing faults during the addition of porcelain to the core underneath.

I don't know if you should replace your crown or not, this is something that you should discuss with your dentist.
