Chrome dentures

Hi

I currently wear an old upper chrome denture and my dentist is due to make me a new denture soon. The only thing that I dont like about my current denture is its ugly looking metal hooks that spread around my teeth and are visible when I smile.

Are there any alternative design of chrome dentures available that dont have the metal hooks on them? What exactly is the point of having these hooks on the chrome dentures?

Metal claps on a chrome denture provide retention for the denture and prevent it from slipping out of place once its in place. So clasps are a very important thing in denture design and without them, you would complain that your denture is loose.

There are also some white tooth coloured clasps that are available these days that some labs provide. I don't think they last as long as the metal clasps. You could ask your dentist if this option is available for your denture.
