    Default Blisters and cleanings

I see my dentist every six months like I should for a cleaning and check-up. I usually experience some bleeding from the gums following the cleaning (which I suspect is pretty normal) but I've also started noticing that I also develop a few small blisters inside my mouth. Is that normal? I've never had a deep cleaning so it's not related to that.

    Hi

    Thank you for your post.

Red sores in the mouth are known as blisters. Blisters in the mouth are caused by a number of reasons. Excessive intake of extremely spicy and hot foods or rough brushing of the teeth can lead to blisters. Chemicals in certain toothpastes and mouthwashes can also cause mouth blisters. A lack of certain nutrients is also known to result in the formation of blisters in the mouth. These nutrients include vitamin B12, folic acid and iron. Supplementing the diet with fresh fruits and green vegetables helps with this problem. Certain viruses can also cause mouth blisters. These small blisters most often are self limiting and go away within a few weeks. You should avoid food or drinks that can aggravate the mouth sores. If they persist longer than a few weeks I suggest you come to see us for an examination so that the cause of the blisters can be investigated.
