Default Is safe to use sensodyne (potassium nitrate) for years?

My dentist suggested I use Sensodyne for my sensitive teeth and receeding gums. I've been using it for about three years now and it works great. I started wondering though if it it's safe to be using potassium nitrate for such a long period of time. Has anyone heard anything about long-term effects?

I am not aware of any damage from using sensodyne long term. If anybody has any other information regarding this matter, please let us know.
