Why do dentures need so much adjustment?

My husband just had new dentures and he suffered terribly with pain from where they rubbed on his gums. I cannot understand how this can happen when an impression of his gums was taken before they were made. He had to file them down bit by bit for days.

New dentures often do need adjustments once they are fitted. This varies from case to case but you will need to have any adjustments carried out by your dentist and not attempt to do it yourself.
