    Default Abutment teeth broken

    Hello,
I am looking for a bit of guidance on what procedures i face and a rough estimation of costs for my 6 tooth bridge coming away.It has been in for 18 years and has just came away after the abutment teeth have decayed,i chipped my 2 front teeth falling on ice in my early teens and never got use to caps always losing them, followed by there removal my dentist then fitted a plate then went for the bridge i was shocked at first having my 2 teeth either side that where ok drilled down to take the bridge but was very happy with the results. Will i now have to have the 4 abatement teeth remove or could they be used as an anchor point to have my original bridge refitted,Ive attached pics ,
    Kind regards,
    A.Armstrong.

    Smile Abutment teeth broken

    Thank you for your post.

Those abutment teeth look to be very broken down with not a lot of tooth tissue left. Your options at this point are:

    1. Root fill these roots where necessary and have posts and cores built on top of them and have a new bridge. Although root filled teeth with posts will be a poor abutment choice for a bridge as they could fracture and compromise the bridge. This option will in my opinion have a very limited lifespan.

    2. Root fill the abutment roots remaining and use them as anchors for an overdenture. Root fillings and anchors for a denture can be costly and ultimatey you will have a denture at the end with all of its limitations.

    3. Remove the roots and have a new denture made. I dont know if you wish to go back to having a denture at this point.

    4. Remove the roots and have dental implants placed with a new bridge on top. This will provide the most natural and long lasting solution but probably also the most expensive option in the short term.
