    Exclamation My gums are receding

    Hi,

I don't see the dentist on a regular basis, but I am concerned that my gums seem to be shrinking back. I haven’t really noticed anything else wrong with my teeth. I’m 35. Is it possible that my gums have developed gum disease and are shrinking as a result of that. I used to clean my teeth poorly when I was a child and a teenager but I now clean them a lot better. Is it possible the gums are receding because of gum disease and if so, how can I stop this problem?

    Lightbulb My gums are receding

Gums commonly recede as a result of gum disease or excessively hard brushing. You need to have your gums seen clinically to see which is the cause of your gum recession. If you have active gum disease, you will need to have professional gum treatment. If your gums have receded as a result of excessive brushing, you will need to modify your brushing techniques or use an electric toothbrush.
