Bleeding gums

Hello

Over the last week my gums have been bleeding when I brush them. I have tried switching over to an electric brush but my gums still bleed a lot when I clean them. My friend recommended using a mouthwash but it tastes horrid and has stained my teeth and not made much of a difference to my gums. What can be used to stop bleeding gums from bleeding and do I need to have my teeth cleaned by a hygienist to stop this bleeding?

Seeing a dentist for a gum assessment is a great idea and you may need hygiene treatment with a hygienist. Bleeding gums are probably caused by inflamed gums as a result of plaque accumulation. By having your teeth thoroughly cleaned professionally and flossing and brushing well at home, the bleeding should stop.
