Tooth sensitivity after veneers fitted

Hi

I had six veneers fitted last four weeks ago and since they were fitted, two of my teeth that were veneered have been very sensitive whenever I have any cold food and drinks.

I went back to see my dentist and he recommended putting sensodyne on those teeth to desensitize them and I have been doing that for the past week but these two teeth are still very sensitive.

I would like to know why should teeth that have been veneered be sensitive at this point? Is there anything that I can do to reduce the sensitivity from these teeth and if the sensitivity does not settle down, what needs to be done on these teeth?

Porcelain veneer placement on teeth usually involves removal of tooth tissue and in some cases a lot of tooth tissue is removed. This can make the teeth sensitive and on a few occasions even painful. The teeth will have to be assesed and if the sensitivity does not settle down and pain starts to arise, then they may need root canal treatment. A lot of the time though, the sensitivity settles down eventually without further treatment.
