Stained crowns

I had four crowns done about three/four years ago to cover my front teeth and over the last 12 months, I have noticed that the crowns have stained and now when I smile its possible to see stains on all of the crowns.

I asked the hygienist to remove the stains from the crowns, but she tried and could not remove them. She recommended that I should have the crowns replaced as she was unable to remove the stains with her scraping equipment.

The stains seem to be around the edges of the crowns and I have tied to use a more abrasive toothpaste and a harder brush to remove these stains from my crowns but it has not worked.

Do you know if the stains can be removed without changing these crowns? I would like to do what I can to leave my crowns as they are because they were very expensive in the first place and would be great if they can be polished and saved. Please advice.

If hygienist scale and polish did not work to remove the stains on your crowns, you can have them polished with polishing discs by your dentist and this sometimes works to remove the stains from your crowns. If this does not work, you will need to have them replaced with new crowns.
