Lightbulb my Cap has come off

Hi doc, the cap on my back tooth has come off for the 4th time and im getting tired of having to keep going back to the dentist!

Why does it keep coming off? Should i have a new cap made? The tooth itself was root treated 5 years ago, and is not painful.

What is a permanent solution for this tooth? Do I need a new cap or can the old cap be repaired? I want something that is going to last and not keep coming off.

    Thank you.

Smile my Cap has come off

    Thank you for your post.

Tooth caps or crowns can occasioanlly come off but if this one has debonded four times, then there maybe problems with the design of the crown prep or the fit of your crown or your crown in occlusion.

If the crown prep lacks retention for the crown, then it will need to be modified and you may need a new crown. If the crown fit is poor, you will need a new crown. If the crown position in occlusion is wrong it might be possible to adjust the current crown to reduce the occlusal forces against it.
