I am getting sharp tooth pain from a cracked tooth

Hi.

I bit on a fruit stone accidently 2 months ago and since then i have been getting sharp tooth pain every time i bite on that tooth. It feels like i have a cracked tooth.

I also get a bit of sensitivity to hot and cold sometimes in that area. The tooth has a big filling in it which was placed years ago by a dentist in the north of England.

Please tell me what is wrong with my tooth. Im anxious about going to the dentist, and don’t like going. What should i do?

Sounds like you may have cracked your tooth and this is not uncommon in teeth that are heavily filled. In heavily filled teeth, the tooth walls are sometimes very thin and these can break after a while in function.

Sometimes, although there is a crack in the tooth, the tooth wall is still hanging on and these can cause a lot of sensitivty when you put pressure on the cracked tooth wall.

Your tooth will need to be assessed and you may need a crown to protect your tooth and prevent the fractured tooth elements from moving in function.
