    Post Loose cap

I have a front tooth cap that was made in the states about 10 years ago and unfortunately this morning, the cap feels loose. Although the cap has not come out, it definitely feels loose and I am concerned that it might come out at any moment.

I would like to know, what should be done with a loose cap that is loose but has not actually come out? Do you remove the cap and reattach it or do you wait for the cap to come off first before you reattach it back on?

I am worried that if I leave it as it, it could come out when I am asleep and I am worried that I might swallow it by accident. Please advise.

    Default Loose cap

    Hi,

    Thank you for your question.

Exactly for the reasons you have mentioned the cap need to be sorted out. It needs to be removed and if possible to be re cemented firmly back into place. If not a new crown may be needed. Sometimes also crowns are cemented on top of the post and a core and it can be this section that is loose. Again it needs to be removed and corrected otherwise here is risk of decay and damage to the tooth underneath and sometimes impossible to fix.
