Receding gum line

Hi

Over the last few weeks, I feel as though my gum line is shrinking back and receding and more and more of my teeth showing and my teeth looking longer than they did before.

When I was eating breakfast this morning, the cold milk was causing shooting pains across my front teeth especially and I think that this is probably caused by my receding gums.

What is the cause of the receding gums? Is there a treatment for receding gum line? Can the gum line be pulled back to where it used to be? Can the tooth sensitivity be stopped?

Thank you for your question.

There are several reasons for receding gum. One is age related. The other is trauma like vigorous or over enthusiastic brushing. The other possibility is periodontal or gum disease the cause of receding gum line.
It is possible to do soft tissue grafting in order to correct the gum line but usually this is done in very severe cases where there is substantial receded gum in the aesthetic zone.

What you need is a clinical assessment and we would be happy to see you and assist you on it. However the first line of action against sensitivity is the use of sensodyne toothpaste.
