Default Could u answer me some question about the crown

Hi Dentist, this is first time i came to ur site and. i'm searching some information about the crown and i found ur site so useful for the patient. i would like to ask u some question about the crown. Last month i got an accident. i fall down on floor and i broked my front upper tooth on the left. i went to see the dentist suddently after that and she did a root canal treatment for me. i followed up this healing for 5 till 6 time. the dentist told me to get a crown cuz my front teeth is weak after the RCT. i searched some information and look for a lower price but i did not get it. so i decided to get a all porcelain crown with her.She shaved my tooth and choosed the shade for me.She told me that i need a post too and she choosed the metal post for me. i have heard that if we use metal post when we need to remove the crown it can break the root canal , is that right? i mean for the time that i'm not happy with the crown and i want to replace a new one. i also worry about the shade and shape of my front tooth cuz before i got an accident. i had a gap between my 2 front teeth , my dentist told me that we can close the gap by making the bigger crown.i'm afraid it will looked too big than the orther one. She told me she can shave it if it's too big....can the dentist do this without consult the lab? and can i ask her to send it back to lab if the shape is too big and the shade does not match? i'm afraid to bother her and make her angry. it's my front teeth so i'm so worry about this. Now i'm waiting for my graduation day ..it will held on soon. The looking is important for this ceremony and for finding a job in the future. right now i'm so sad about my lost tooth and feel so bad. Could u help me?

Default Could u answer me some question about the crown

    Hi,

    Thank you for your question.

I am sorry to hear about your accident which i have to say is not uncommon and we have seen it happening many times and the problem is fixable and should not worry at all.

It is very common that after trauma to a tooth, the nerve of the tooth gets exposed due to fracture of the tooth or it just necrotises (thus is damaged and must be removed to avoid infection developing). This process is called root canal treatment and it seems your dentist has done it for you.

Again it is also very common that due to the force of trauma and tooth being badly damaged and fractured, a post of some sort, like a metal post is necessary to help to build up the tooth so a crown can be placed on the tooth. This is known as post and core. Having a post in the root of the tooth is not ideal as it increases the possibility of root fracture. But you have to remember that it is not guaranteed that this will happen and in a lot of cases ther is not other option but to do this. So again your dentist is not doing wrong for using a post if they see it necessary.

The shade (colour) and shape of the crown and its size to close the gap or diastema you seem to have is something that you must fully discuss with your dentist. It is possible to make adjustments to a crown by the dentist before it is cemented permanently and if needs be the crown can be returned back to the lab for further adjustments and alterations. This is possible and in some cases it is done specially withe front teeth crowns, so we can get the best possible aesthetic result. My suggestion to you would be to fully discuss your concerns with your dentist in advance and what you like to have, so he or she can take the necessary steps to do the best they can for you.
