    Post Broken temporary veneers

I am currently seeing my dentist for a smile makeover. He prepared my teeth last week and has made some temporary Veneers for me whilst the permanent porcelain Veneers are made by his lab.

Whilst I was eating dinner last night, two of the temporary dental veneers broke off and I am worried that the rest might break off soon.

Unfortunately my dentist is on holiday this week and I am worried that my teeth will be damaged in the meantime if I leave them as they are. Could you please advise me as to what I should do.

    Arrow Broken temporary veneers

    Hi,

    Thank you for your question.

I am sorry to hear that your temporary veneers have broken off. This is not very uncommon and does happen.

What you need to consider is two factors. One is that whether the teeth that have lost thier temporary veneers are symptomatic like sensitivity. The second factor is that how unsightly is the appearance of your teeth.

There are many different types of porcelain veneers that you can have. The conventional porcelain veneers have usually a heavy preparation. Thus a bit of the tooth has been removed. In these cases teeth can be very sensitive to air and aesthetically teeth do not look nice. Therefore you must see an emergency dentist to provide you with some new temporaries. At Pearl Dental Clinic we have a 24 hour 7 days a week emergency service and we would be very happy to assisst you with that.

Other forms of porcelain veneers like lumineers in the majority of the cases do not have heavy preperations and therefore no need for temporarys at all. However if there has been some preparations and hence the need for temporaries, it is susally so fine that in most of the cases there is no need to replace the temporary if aesthetically not mush is compramised.
