My teenage sons tooth got knocked out!

Dear dentist,

Whilst playing sports yesterday, my 13 year old son’s front tooth got knocked out. The tooth was found and stored in milk, until we got to the dentist 2.5 hours later. The dentist put the tooth back in its place, and attached it to its adjacent teeth. He has now referred us to the local hospital for further treatment. It was an emergency appointment, so we were not able to ask many questions. I am really worried. Pls let me know what will happen next, and importantly will he have to lose the tooth?

When teeth are badly traumatized, there is always a risk of complications in future which need to be managed and I think thats why your son has been referred to the hospital.

He may not necessarily lose the tooth but the tooth might lose vitality and need treatment to prevent infection. His tooth will need to be carefully monitored. If the tooth is lost however, when he is older he could have it replaced with a dental implant.
