    Angry Toothache pain

    Hi

All night last night I could not sleep due to this severe toothache pain that keeps coming and going. The pain seems to start around my top back tooth and gradually spread to my head and its a very severe pain at times.

I have tried neurofen and paracetamol, are there any better painkillers that I could take to stop this pain? If the toothache pain does not stop, do you recommend that I have the tooth removed? Considering how bad this pain is right now, I would do anything just to stop the pain.

    Unhappy Toothache pain

    Hi,

    Thank you for your question.

From what you have dscribed the symptoms of your tooth is referred to as irreversible pulpitis. This means infection the tooth ahs reached the nerve house of the tooth and has caused severe inflammation in the pulp chamber

The painkillers you are taking are some of the best but they can have limited effect in reducing the pain. the best solution to eliminate the pain is to extirpate the tooth in these cases. In otherwords the pulp of the tooth needs to be accessed and place some anti-inflammatory medicine directly into the tooth to subside the pain.

Once the access cavity is made then patients will need root canal treatment (RCT) to completed the RCT in the following appointments.
