    Cool Zirconium crown

    Hi

I had a zirconium crown fitted last year by my dentist abroad and although I had no problems with it at the time, the crown became loose a few months ago and had to be re-glued back onto my tooth. Now last night whilst I was eating a sandwich my crown came out again and I had to put it back on my tooth with toothpaste. Are these problems caused by the crown not being strong enough and do I need to have the crown changed to a different type of crown? If so, which type of crown do you recommend that I have this time and how much is it going to cost for a new crown.

    Default Zirconium crown

    Hi,

    Thank you for you question.

Crowns come of the teeth for several reasons and most of these has little to do with the type of crown.
One reason for crowns coming off is no or little retention. If there is little of the tooth left to place the crown on or the tooth underneath has developed decay then the crown will come off. To fix this the decay has to be removed and then the tooth to be repaired and re-prepared for a new crown.

Another reason can be that the tooth is overloaded. Therefore when you bite most of the chewing load comes on to the tooth with the crown first. Overtime this will loosen the cement of the crown and eventually will come off. Sometimes overloading can be because there is not enough other teeth in the mouth to spread the load and therefore one tooth gets overloaded with chewing function (loss of posterior support). The best way to find out about the cause of the tooth coming off is to assess the case clinically and we would be happy to do that for you in a check up appointment.

The cost of the crown depends on which type of the crown you are going to go for and all the prices are listed in our price list.
