    Angry A split tooth

    Hello

I have a back molar tooth that was root filled last year and as I was eating a piece of bread yesterday, the tooth split and a chunk of it fell out. When I looked at the broken bit of tooth, it looked like a piece of tooth rather than filling. Since then, my tongue keeps rubbing on this broken tooth and because the edge of the tooth is very sharp, my tongue has become very sore and even bled this morning. What can be done for this tooth? Can the emergency dentist fix this tooth today?

    Smile A split tooth

    Thank you for your question.

A split tooth if restorable, will need a dental crown to prevent further fracture of the tooth. The emergency dentist can certainly prepare the tooth for a crown and the dental crown is then usually ready for fitting within 1-2 weeks.
