    Lightbulb Facial pain

    Hi

I have had a severe facial pain for the past five days which seems to get worst as the day goes on. I have taken several different painkillers and one antibiotic that my GP has prescribed but the pain is still there.

I would like to know what causes facial pain and what can I do to stop this pain. Clearly painkillers and antibiotics don't seem to be working, so I would like to know if there is any treatment that could work in my case.

Is it normal for facial pain to last so long? Could it be something more serious and what treatments are available for severe facial pain?

    Red face Facial pain

    Thank you for your question.

Facial pain could have many different causes. Other than the usual dental causes, facial pain could also be caused by TMJ dysfunction or atypical facial pain or trigeminal neuralgia and sometimes even trauma as well as a few other causes.

You need to be seen by an experienced dentist for a full examination, so that we can accurately tell you what is the cause of your facial pain.
