I lost a lower tooth about three months ago. My dentist tells me that the best replacement for the tooth would be a dental implant. Can somebody tell me if I have any other options.

Your Options for a missing tooth are usually:
1. Accept the gap.
2. Fit a denture.
3. A bridge.
4. Dental Implant.
If the tooth is in the smile zone, you may not be happy to accept a gap. Dentures can be bulky and some patients cant tolerate them and others do not wish to have a removable appliance.
Bridges sometimes involve shaving down healthy neighbouring teeth and in my opinion shaving down healthy should be avoided where possible.
The only other option would be an Implant. An Implant is a titanium fixture that integrates with the bone and a crown is attached to it once its ready. Implants are usually the most aesthetic and natural looking solution for a missing tooth. If the patient takes good care of his/her implant, it can last for many many years.
