Implant for my infected root

Hello.

I have had pain from an infected root in the middle of my mouth. When i saw the dentist he said it is a hopeless root and has to be extacted.

My dentist has suggested that I have the tooth removed and place an implant in the place of my infected root.

How much does an implant cost and what is the implant procedure? Will the implant procedure hurt?
