Question How well does a temporary denture stay in the mouth?

    Hi

I have recently lost a front tooth crown and my dentist has said that there is not much of the tooth left to save and ideally the root should be removed and a temporary denture placed in the gap.

He then wants to wait 3 months and then place an implant in the gap and so eventually fit an implant cap over the implant. In the mean time, he is recommending that I have a temporary denture.

Could you explain, how well does a temporary denture stay in the mouth? My friend uses denture adhesive to keep her denture in her mouth, is that something that is commonly needed for temporary dentures?

Default How well does a temporary denture stay in the mouth?

    Hi,

    thank you for your question.

The fit of the temporary dentures vary from case to case depending on many different factors but in general they are not too bad and it may be necessary to use some adhesive specially initially until one gets use to them a little and holding it in place will be much easier (in most of the cases anyway).

In some cases it may be possible to use alternative options to denture and at pearl dental clinic we start implant placement usually 6 weeks after extraction and the hole procedure is completed within 4 months. This is much shorter than many other places because of high quality implants that we use and allow us to start putting the crowns on top of the implants much faster than other implants and hence reducing the length of treatment and the time that patient need to wear their temporary dentures.
