Can I have a veneer on top of my dental implant?

I had a dental implant installed about eleven years ago and its been great, I have been using it without any problems. Recently I whitened my teeth and obviously the implant crown did not whiten and now looks more yellow in colour compared to the rest of my teeth.

I have been advised that the best thing would be to have the implant crown replaced with a new crown. I would like to know if its possible to keep the crown as it is but just resurface the outside of it with a dental veneer so that it looks more white?

Would you advise this sort of approach or do you think it would be better to have the crown replaced with a new crown? If the veneer option does work, how long could I expect it to last?

Yes you can have veneer on top of your implant crown but like everything else in dentistry it has its advantages and disadvantages.
The strength of the bond between veneer and the crown can be limited and more likely for the veneer to come off. But if replace the crown it can be more costly but you wont have the bother of debonding of a veneer!
