How long after an extraction can I have a dental implant?

Hi

I had my lower right molar removed two weeks ago after the tooth split in several places and needed to be extracted. The tooth had been previously root filled and was pretty broken down and suddenly it broke down even more and my dentist said that he cant save it anymore and so the tooth was removed.

I miss the tooth now and food keeps getting packed in the area where the tooth used to be, so I would like a dental implant placed there. Could you please let me know when I should have a dental implant placed?
