implant won't hold crown

I have had two implants for a year now one is fine but the other will not hold the crown for any length of time it just drops out. I am so fed up with the constant trips to the dentist. Please can you tell me what is wrong! many thanks - lindajean.

Thank you for your question.

There can be several reason for your implant crown not holding the crown. One is that your bite is not correct and there is premature contact on that crown and overloading it, resulting in the crown coming off. It can be also due to your bite and the way your teeth come together.

The other reason can be a short abutment or a very shiny and smooth surface abutment. In this case there is little frictional/resistance forces to keep the crown in place once cemented.

The other reason can be that the fit of the crown on the abutment is not as good as it should be and again reducing the retention forces. To minimize these possibilities, where possible, one tries to use screw retained abutment and crowns on the implant but one has to notice that this is not always possible in every case.
