How long should I wait for an implant

I had a tooth in my lower right side removed last week. I have a temporary
denture for now while the inflammation/healing occurs but I would like to have a
permanent solution as soon as practicable.

The dentist that extracted the tooth (it was done on an emergency basis while I was travelling) told me I should wait a month before considering implant treatment.

So do you concur and regardless, when would you suggest I come in for a consultation.

Thank you for your question.

You can come at any time for consultation. However in general the norm at Pearl Dental Clinic is that once a tooth that is associated with infection and is removed we wait for at least a period of 6 weeks before considering implant placement. In some cases, if there is a very large cyst or infection we may even wait a bit longer. This is because we know that as soon as a tooth is extracted the site of extraction and bone undergoes a lot of changes. Studies have shown that about 6 weeks post extraction the bone has the highest activity and as we call it "bone remodeling" is at its peak which gives the best chance for implant osseointegration if implant is placed at this time.
