Dental implant rejection

Hi Doctor

I lost most of my teeth over the last two decades through neglect and now I am looking to get dental implants and bridges on top of them to make my mouth healthy again and be able to eat my food once again without dentures.

I have a question to ask regarding dental implant rejection and would be grateful for your answer. I would like to know what is the likelihood of my body rejecting dental implants and what happens at that point in terms of the rest of treatment. Do you try again if the dental implant is rejected or do you abandon the treatment at that point? What are the options if rejection of the dental implant happens?

Thank you for your post. Dental implant rejection is very rare, indeed the success rate with dental implants is around 95%. If rejection did occur, we need to assess the reasons for the failure. Its usually possible to redo the procedure and the second procedure may be successful.

If the second procedure did not work either, then one should probably look at alternative treatment such as dentures or conventional bridges where possible.
