    Smile How Long implants last

Dental implants if done correctly using the correct techniques and materials can last many decades. There are some implants around these days that have been placed over 30 years ago.

Implants need good maintenance such as daily inter-dental cleaning and regular hygienist visits to prevent gum disease developing. Poor oral hygiene and cleaning can cause gum disease which can make implants loose and must be stabilized by an experienced dentist/specialist if it develops.

Smoking and Diabetes can also accelerate gum disease which can in turn cause implant failure.

The crowns and bridges on top of implants will probably need to changed on average every 15 years because of porcelain fracture and shade mismatch. This is why its important to have an established brand of implant so that the spare parts will be available in future when they need to be changed.
