    Wink dental implant gallery

    Hi

I have just seen your dental implant gallery and have a quick question to ask regarding bone block grafts.

According to your dental implant gallery, you use human bone from the rocky mountain tissue bank. My question is that instead of bone from the bank, could I use my own bone and is that any better or worst than the tissue bank bone for dental implants?

    Lightbulb dental implant gallery

    Thank you for your post.

As you can see on our dental implant gallery, most of the time when we do block bone grafting we use donated human bone from the rockey mountain tissue bank. However from time to time we also use patients own bone as well.

There are pros and cons to both types of bone.

When using donated human bone, there is a very small risk of infection transmission. Although the tissue bank do their best to minimize this risk. Your own bone most closely matches your tissues, so its likely to have the best acceptance by your body.

On the other hand using your own bone, means that we will have to surgically open another site on your body to harvest it and this carries risks of bleeding, swelling, infection and damage to surrounding structures.

There is no difference in cost between the two types, your own bone needs more surgical time to harvest, on the hand the donated bone costs money to buy. So overall, there is no difference in cost.
