Gum graft

I recently lost my top second incisor and have been given a temporary bridge by my dentist as a short term measure. I would like to have the lost tooth replaced with a single dental implant but my dentist tells me that its not a straight forward procedure because I have lost some gum tissue and I would need a gum graft procedure as well.

Apparently the gum has receded and if I had an implant without a gum graft the implant would not look very good. I would like to know how gum grafting is done, what is involved and how successful if the procedure? If the gum graft does not work, what would be my options?

Gum grafting is unpredictable and it does not always work. If the gum graft fails, it can be repeated. If it does not work repeatedly, one may have to change the treatment plan and look for a different course of treatment.
