    Lightbulb What are Straumann implants?

    Hi

I have four loose teeth remaining at the top and I have been told by my dentist that they need to be removed. In the past I have tried wearing a denture but I simply cant tolerate them. I am looking at the option of having 6 implants placed with a bridge on top of them.

I have seen different dentists who offer different brands of implants and your site states that you offer Straumann implants. Can you tell me more about Straumann implants and if there are any differences between all the different implant systems.

    Smile What are Straumann implants?

    Dear Alfie,

    Thank you for your post.

The question you have is very interesting because we know there are many people like yourself that are looking to have implants to replace their missing teeth and when they approch a dentist or implantologist, they get told about a large number of different types of implants. So what makes one implant better and more reliable than another one?

There are hundreds of different types of implants that are made from almost the same material,Titanium and its allowys, by different complanies in different countries. They all look almost the same in shape, size and their application. In a lot of cases patients are not even aware what type of implant they are receiving. Because once implant is in place in the bone you cannot or should not be able to see any part of it.

What distinguishes between a good and a reputable implant like Straumann implants and a lot of its carbon copies or other types of implants is the research behind it and the history of its success rate, short and long term.

We use exclusively Straumann implants at Pearl Dental Clinic because there is more than 50 years of clinical and scientific research behind it. They are manufactured to the highest standard in Switzerland and have gone under vigorous tests to assess their oseointegration, speed of bone attachment, strength, durability, tensile strength, resistance against fractures and so on...

There are very few implants in the world that have such an extensive background to ensure their quality. A lot of the other types of implants are just carbon copies that are cheaply produced with no short or long term research or assessment behind them! These type of implants tends to have a much higher failure rate. So short term some money is saved but long term can be a very expensive experience!

This is the reason and thinking behind the use of Straumann implants at Pearl Dental Clinic. We do our best and use the best materials to ensure, to the best of our ability, a successful outcome and no shortcuts in implant placements.

I hope I have been able to answer you question effectively.
