Trouble healing

With my dental implants, I had a hard time healing after an infection set in. The white coverings the periodontist put over the incisions and pulled teeth didn't stay in. I think I must have swallowed one in my sleep. Could that have been the case? My dentist never would come out and say that's what happened. It's still a mystery to me.
