Same day dental implant

Hi

I have a broken down front tooth that keeps becoming infected and my dentist says that the tooth is hopeless and its better to extract it and have a titanium implant placed in its place instead.

I have seen several dental implant experts and one of them suggested having a same day dental implant at the same time as the tooth extraction.

The other implant experts advised against this approach and suggested waiting 6 weeks before having a dental implant placed. I would like to know what are the risks with having same day dental implants placed?

Have you provided a same day implant for any of your patients? If I have a same day dental implant, could this lead to any problems long term with the implant?

Thank you for your question. Same day implants have their fans within the profession and also those who are not so keen on them. We occasionally place a same day implant as long as the socket is free of infection and we could be sure that we would have implant stability if we placed an implant immediately after tooth extraction.

In most cases that we do, there is infection related to the previous tooth and primary stability can be difficult to achieve immediately after tooth extractions, we therefore don't place many same day dental implants.
