    Red face Dental implant durability

    Hi

I play Rugby almost every week and I am constantly hit in the face and sometimes so hard that the gum shield is not that effective against the hits. I recently lost a front tooth that fractured and been advised to consider a dental implant. My question is how durable are dental implants? can dental implants withstand being hit or do they break just as easily as natural teeth. If an implant does break, what options are available to me for fixing it?

Dental implants, the implant abutment or the implant crown can all break if they are hit hard enough. If a dental implant itself breaks then it will have to be removed and this is far more difficult to do compared with a tooth root. If you are frequently hit in the face during sport and a gum shield is not effective, then you may want to think twice before having a dental implant.
