Dental implants can stabilise oral health after tooth loss.
The use of dental implants for individuals who have lost a tooth can help them maintain stronger teeth in the future, it has been claimed.
Dr Mitchell A Josephs wrote in a blog post for the Palm Beach Post that when a dental implant is installed it acts to support surrounding teeth, ensuring the gums and bone of the jaw do not retract, thereby weakening the teeth.
He noted without a tooth in place, surrounding teeth can drift in to fill its place and this can leave gaps which can only be filled through cosmetic dentistry treatments.
By filling this gap as soon as it is created with a dental implant, hours of treatment in the future can be avoided.
Elsewhere, a study by Basque Research recently revealed that survival rates for dental implants stand at 99.2 per cent on average and although antibiotics can stop infection, in many cases this has little effect on the longevity of the dental treatment.
