Stacey Solomon overdoes the fake tan/white teeth look

Essex native and TV personality Stacey Solomon has revealed a new look that might have missed the mark; the 24-year-old appeared at the launch for at London’s Vanilla club on Tuesday. Stacey has been hired as the new face for the online retailer and she excitedly tweeted fans about the new contract after it was confirmed that she would head the advertising campaign.

The former X-factor contestant appeared to have overdone the fake-tan and combined it with extremely white teeth that seemed to glow against her orange complexion. She wore her blond hair in loose curls for the photo call and teamed her bright teeth with cut-off denim shorts and black heeled sandals. The deep tan didn’t photograph well and fans were quick to point out the resemblance between Stacey’s bright white teeth and the Friends character Ross Geller, who accidentally bleaches his teeth to the point where they glow in the dark, in one episode of the hit US show.

However, the mother-of-two didn’t let the fashion faux pas get her down and she tweeted followers her delight about her new role with the website, saying. ‘I was over the moon to be asked to model for the campaign and be part of the brand.’ She described the online retailer as ‘an ideal place to shop easily for me and the kids – plus I always discover amazing finds for my home.

Gordon Ramsay shows off bright white teeth

TV chef Gordon Ramsay might be better known for bearing his teeth in anger but he was all smiles when he left the Restaurant Story in South London this week, and it wasn’t hard for waiting photographers to catch a glimpse of his brand new, dazzlingly white teeth. Far beyond a simple whitening procedure, speculation immediately arose that the Kitchen Nightmares star has had veneer treatment to straighten his teeth and cover up dental stains – this sort of procedure could cost anywhere from £7,000 to £20,000, depending on the type of veneer selected for use.

Gordon’s new show Masterchef Junior is set to launch in the US next month, so it seems that the top chef has gone for a more ‘Hollywood’ approach to dental improvements, with the laminates providing a perfectly straight, white smile – that can’t be missed. Unfortunately, fans and critics probably need some time to get used to the drastic change and some have taken to news sites to comment on the chef’s new teeth, saying they ‘look so silly’ and asking why he felt the need to get veneers that are so straight and unnaturally white.

As well as improving his teeth, fitness fanatic Ramsay, 43, has signed up for the Ironman Championship in Hawaii this October – this includes a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run.

Rylan Clark shows off new veneers on BB sideshow

Former X-factor contestant Rylan Clark has revealed his new dental veneers on Big Brother spin-off show Big Brother’s Bit On The Side which is on Channel 5 daily. The Essex native showed-off his blindingly white teeth as he began his new job presenting the programme, which follows reality show Big Brother, now in its fourteenth series.

Not long ago, Rylan was tweeting fans about his dental treatment and kept followers informed about the progress with his veneers, and viewers were online within seconds of his presenting debut, to talk about the bright shade of tooth he has gone for – even comparing him to TOWIE star Chloe Sims, who is notorious for her blinding veneers. Ross from American sitcom Friends was also mentioned; in reference to the episode where he gets his teeth bleached and the results are unexpected.

Despite people poking fun at his new appearance, Rylan took the jokes in good humour, tweeting ‘When your teeth have their own twitter accounts, you know you’ve made it’ and ‘Newsflash! My teeth will be fronting new BB show ‘Bit On The Big Side’ coming soon… #onlyjoking.’ He later posted a picture of himself gesturing to the camera and added the caption ‘Such an amazing night! And for those piping up about my teeth, this ones for you, enjoy! X.’

Rolling Stone Keith Richards shows off his dental work

He might have lived a life of rock and roll, but Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has certainly not let the lifestyle affect his dental health, as he shows off his teeth on an outing in New York this week. The rock legend, who turns 70 later this year, has spent most of his life smoking, taking drugs, and drinking alcohol, but he seems determined to maintain a healthy-looking smile and beamed for the cameras when he was pictured at a Broadway show at the Al Hirshfield Theatre on Wednesday night.

Dressed casually with a scarf around his head and a huge hoop earring through one ear, Richards was obviously comfortable in his rocker attire and flashed his youthful smile at waiting photographers. The bright, white teeth are a far cry from the rotten, brown smile that Richards sported during his youth, thanks to a hedonistic lifestyle that noticeably affected his dental health; band mate Ronnie Wood revealed that the rock star once repaired a broken tooth using superglue.

Although he didn’t seem too worried about his appearance in the past, Richards might be looking to work on dental problems as the band continue playing and entertaining crowds all over the world. The Rolling Stones are currently preparing for a 10-day series of concerts and events labelled British Summer Time, that will begin July 6th and attendance is expected to be around 500,000.

TV presenter Holly Willoughby has plenty to smile about right now.

When the 31-year-old appeared on television in a toothpaste commercial some viewers questioned that her dazzling smile really was all white, but now advertising watchdogs have declared that Holly is, in fact, whiter than white.

Any suggestions of TV trickery have been totally repudiated by the Advertising Standards Association, who, after examining the raw film footage provided by Oral-B, ruled that the television images in the advertisement for the maker’s 3D White Brilliance toothpaste were genuine.

The investigation into the advertisement came after some viewers said that Holly’s teeth were so white that the image must have been digitally enhanced, while others suggested that her teeth were so clean and bright that she must also have undergone professional whitening as well as simply using the toothpaste.

Holly, the beautiful co-host of ITV’s This Morning programme, responded by issuing a statement confirming that she had used the advertised product over a two-week period prior to filming and she had then noticed that her teeth were visibly whiter than before that time.

She also said that the commercial truly and accurately represented her opinion and experience of using the toothpaste in question.

The advert for Oral-B 3D toothpaste, manufactured by Procter and Gamble, featured a man and a woman sitting on a bus with a voice-over that said: “When you smile, the world smiles back. Introducing Oral B 3D White Brilliance toothpaste.”

The ad then backed up the claims with an appearance by Holly, revealing her own perfect white teeth, who declared: “You see! No one can resist the perfect white smile. That’s why Oral-B 3D White is always part of my beauty regime.’

In its report, the ASA said while there had been some changes to the original footage, the outcome did not misleadingly exaggerate the effect of using Oral-B 3D.

It went on:: “We examined both the graded and un-graded versions of the ad and noted the overall appearance of Ms Willoughby’s teeth in the ad had not been significantly modified. Because Ms Willoughby had used the advertised product for a two-week period prior to filming the ad and noticed visibly whiter teeth, her teeth had not been whitened prior to filming the ad and her teeth had not been significantly modified during post production, we considered the ad did not exaggerate the efficacy of the advertised product.”

You could say that, as far as Holly was concerned, it was smiles better!

Viewers complain about Oral-B toothpaste advert

For the second time in as many weeks a celebrity endorsing toothpaste has found themselves at the centre of numerous complaints regarding the quality of the product they are advertising. ITV This Morning host Holly Willoughby is part of the ad campaign for Oral-B 3D White Brilliance toothpaste but viewers have been questioning how natural her white teeth really are and whether the company are giving the impression that the toothpaste can whiten teeth almost as well as a professional treatment.

Viewers suggest that Holly’s teeth have been digitally improved or that the whiteness is from professional whitening rather than just using the toothpaste for two weeks. The firm that owns Oral-B, Proctor & Gamble, have confirmed that the presenter did use the product over a two-week period and found that her teeth where noticeably whiter, without any help in post-production.

Regardless of the complaints the Advertising Standards Agency sided with the company, finding that, despite some minor changes to the original footage, the outcome was not exaggerated to the point where it could be considered misleading to consumers. The Agency stated that ‘We examined both the graded and un-graded version of the ad and noted the overall appearance of Ms Willoughby’s teeth in the ad had not been significantly modified…. We considered the ad did not exaggerate the efficacy of the advertised product. We therefore concluded that the ad did not breach the Code.’

Frank Skinner takes a pop at celebrities who have their teeth whitened

The pressure on celebrities and TV stars to look perfect in front of the cameras has to be immense, but it seems presenter Frank Skinner doesn’t take that as an excuse for undergoing cosmetic treatment; the comedian has said that the trend for celebrities to get their teeth whitened to an unnatural finish is getting ridiculous.

The 55-year-old has focused on fellow English stars, namely ex-members of indie band Oasis, saying he won’t be taking advantage of the dental treatments on offer because it wouldn’t suit his face to have extremely white teeth. ‘I don’t want to be one of those celebrities, and we won’t name names,’ Frank explains, ‘who have gone for the very, very white, perfect, pristine teeth that they’ve had built and often with a rugged working-class face.’ Speaking on his Absolute Radio show, he actually did go on to ‘name names’ taking a pop at musician Noel Gallagher, saying ‘as an example, as a man who looks like he should have teeth like mine and in fact has got perfectly white ones.’

When asked what he would do if his own teeth started to fall out or look very discoloured, the radio host replied that he still wouldn’t attempt cosmetic surgery, joking that he would ‘rather go the Queen Mother route, in other words have small wooden ones.’

Best celebrity smiles are revealed

Last year it was Cheryl Cole who had the nation’s favourite smile, but the Geordie has been usurped by singer Tulisa Contostavlos, who also took her place on the X-Factor panel as a judge. A survey carried out by the Harley Street Clinic revealed that Tulisa’s teeth are top of the list when it comes to the UK’s ideal smile. Tulisa spent thousands making sure her teeth were perfectly straight and white before she made her X-Factor debut last series, and it seems the improvement hasn’t gone unnoticed among viewers. Third place was taken by Kate Middleton, while her sister Pippa found herself down in tenth, and Coronation Street’s Michelle Keegan also managed to make the top ten.

Olympic diver Tom Daley topped the list for the men, with his pearly whites beating away rivals David Beckham and TOWIE’s Mark Wright. Russell Brand also made a surprise appearance on the list, as his teeth have been whitened since he moved to the US. The Royal family were found to be popular with men too, with Prince Harry coming in at the number eight spot – just behind rapper Prof. Green, who has spent a reported £12,000 on a complete smile makeover.

The obvious ‘Hollywood smile’ has fallen in popularity slightly this year, as the blinding white teeth of Nicola Roberts, Chloe Sims, and Simon Cowell failed to make the top ten; most people who were asked felt their teeth were too large and too bright to look natural.

Study shows white teeth are a sign of good health

It might seem obvious but scientists at the University of Leeds have been working hard to prove that having white teeth is a sign of good health and it makes you more attractive to the opposite sex. It seems that human teeth are used in the same way that peacock’s use their feathers in the animal kingdom, to advertise health and genetic superiority when finding a mate.

In a study carried out by both the University of Leeds and the University of Central Lancashire, computers were used to digitally change the colour and spacing of model’s teeth using three different shades – yellow/brown, healthy white, and startling white. The altered photographs were then shown to 150 men and women to see which were deemed the most attractive. Not surprisingly, the yellow teeth were not popular and also widely spaced teeth were found to be unattractive, but heavily bleached teeth were not found to be significantly more desirable than a natural shade of enamel – at least on women, anyway.

The research revealed that the condition of women’s teeth seemed to be more important when trying to find a partner. Psychologist at Leeds University, Colin Hendrie, said that teeth had quite a big effect on males when they were looking at females, ‘Males are thinking about attraction and females are in competition with each other’, he explains. It is believed that women’s teeth are an indication of their age and fertility, as well as giving some clues to diet, childhood illnesses and certain genetic disorders.
