MP David Amess has launched an attack on a number of BBC newsreaders by claiming they may have received too many Botox injections.
The Southend West representative suggested that a number of the female hosts appeared to be smiling when discussing serious issues, which he claimed was "annoying" for the viewer.
In a scathing assault on the news channel, Mr Amess claimed that the end of the digital switchover would be an appropriate time to consider how the corporation is funded.
He said: "I don't know whether they've had too much Botox or something, when they are presenting the news and it's a very serious subject, they are smiling."
Responding to his comments, culture minister Ed Vaizey praised the news provider and claimed it sets a quality bar for television and radio coverage across the country.
This news comes after music mogul Simon Cowell was blamed for turning men against having Botox treatment as a result of his different appearance on Britain's Got Talent.
