Lily Allen ‘is to have all her wisdom teeth out’

Wisdom teeth will no longer be causing problems for Lily Allen after this week. Lily Allen is to have all of her wisdom teeth removed to prevent further problems with them, according to a post on her Twitter account.

The Smile singer said she is to have a procedure on Thursday (January 20th 2011) in which all four will be taken out following a mouth infection last summer.

As may be expected, she did not appear to be looking forward to it.

"Having all 4 wisdoms out on Thurs. OUCH! General anaesthetic, yum," Allen wrote.

The pop star has been out of the media spotlight lately after taking a career break to have a baby and then miscarrying the child last year when she was six months pregnant.

This follows advice from American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons chair Louis Rafetto, who recently told that having wisdom teeth out could improve oral hygiene and prevent future dental complaints.

He explained that they are hard to clean due to their position at the back of the mouth and could also push other teeth out of line.

Lindsay Lohan ‘being brave after emergency dentistry’

Emergency dentistry has not fazed Lindsay Lohan. Reports have emerged that Lindsay Lohan has had emergency dentistry in order to treat dental problems.

According to, the actress had surgery earlier this week and has since been spending some time with her estranged father Michael, with photographs showing her opening her mouth to display her treatment for him.

"She had teeth removed and won't even take any painkillers for the pain," a friend of Lohan commented, although they did not reveal exactly what she had done.

The source added that this is in contrast to five months ago, when the actress had her wisdom teeth removed and opted to take powerful painkiller Dilaudid.

Earlier this week, Louis Rafetto, chair of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons told that having wisdom teeth removed could result in better oral hygiene and fewer dental complaints afterwards.

Many people do not have room in their mouths for wisdom teeth, which may be why Lohan opted to have hers removed.

Cosmetic dentistry to remove wisdom teeth ‘could benefit oral health’

Having wisdom teeth removed through cosmetic dentistry could improve dental hygiene. People who have cosmetic dentistry to take out their wisdom teeth could benefit from better oral hygiene and fewer dental complaints in the future, it has been claimed.

American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons chair Louis Rafetto told that even if wisdom teeth are not causing problems right away, they may begin to after a few years.

"The fact is, extraction is much easier in young adults and research consistently shows that it is a simple way of improving both dental and overall health," he added.

Mr Rafetto explained that because wisdom teeth are more difficult to clean, they may cause more bacteria in the mouth, while they can also damage healthy teeth as they erupt.

The expert added that if cosmetic dentistry to remove wisdom teeth is not an option, patients should spend more time brushing and flossing if they want to avoid emergency dentistry.

According to the British Dental Health Foundation, wisdom teeth usually erupt between the ages of 17 and 25.
