Actresses support whitening treatment ‘oil pulling’

Hollywood actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Shailene Woodley have shared their support of tooth whitening treatment known as ‘oil pulling’, which involves rinsing the mouth out with coconut oil to whiten the teeth and improve oral health.

Gwyneth Paltrow, who is known for her love of natural, healthy living, spoke to E! News about the practice, saying ‘I just started ‘oil pulling’, which is when you swish coconut oil around [in your mouth] for 20 minutes, and it’s supposed to be great for oral health and making your teeth white’

The technique is an ancient Ayurvedic treatment that is thought to strengthen the gums as well as improve the enamel shade. Shailene Woodley, star of the new young-adult film Divergent, described the practice as ‘amazing!’ in an interview with Gloss magazine. The 22-year-old added that ‘it really makes your teeth whiter, because the plaque on your teeth is not water-soluble, its fat soluble.’ The young actress went on to explain that lipids in the oil will dissolve the fat to improve dental health and get rid of the plaque. Most of the time, coconut oil is recommended but Shailene said that she prefers sesame oil.

New York based cosmetic dentist, Dr Marc Lowenberg, told Us Weekly that ‘there’s no downside’ to this treatment and that oil pulling is ‘probably the most harmless natural remedy.’ He added ‘mouthwash makes your breath better for around ten minutes; if [oil pulling] really takes the toxins out of your mouth your breath should stay fresher longer.’

Gwyneth Paltrow takes on Joan Rivers over Botox use

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is not a fan of Botox and has even gone so far as to claim that the procedure made her look like ‘a crazy Joan Rivers’ after she had it done several years ago. The mother-of-two spoke about her beauty regime and did not rule out the possibility of facial surgery in the future, saying ‘I would be scared to go under the knife, but talk to me when I’m 50. I’ll try anything.’

However, the 40-year-old went on to say that she was not happy with the results of her Botox treatment and would not be trying it again anytime soon, commenting that she ‘looked crazy’ and comparing herself to American comedienne Joan Rivers – who is well known for her love of plastic surgery and facial treatments.

As well as anti-wrinkle injections, Gwyneth also underwent Thermage laser treatment, which she described as feeling ‘like someone’s smacking your face with a rubber band that has an electric shock in it.’ She added that she would try it again because it took years off her appearance and made her feel more confident in herself.

Although she is known for her healthy lifestyle, Gwyneth admitted that her vice is smoking, which she does once a week. She explained that ‘It’s what makes life interesting, finding the balance between cigarettes and tofu. My one light American Spirit that I smoke once a week, on Saturday night.’

Women requesting foot fillers to wear high heels

With the likes of Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Cheryl Cole tottering around in giant heels, it was only a matter to time before British women started to follow the trend, and just like their celebrity idols, they are investing in foot fillers – or ‘toe jobs’ – to make the experience more comfortable. Operations to inject dermal fillers into the toes, heels, and balls of the feet have doubled over the last year, according to leading surgeons in the UK.

It’s no coincidence that the rise in popularity comes as sales of six inch heels have quadrupled over the same twelve months, and designers are now considering adding another inch to their towering shoes to further improve sales. The treatment, which costs about £380, is thought to make wearing heels for long periods of time more bearable and should remain effective for up to six months.

Cosmetic surgery group Transform have seen the number of procedures increase by a fifth in the last month alone, and a spokesperson for the company commented that it was all due to women following celebrity fads, she said ‘With the likes of Victoria Beckham stepping out in towering stilettos, British women are emulating the look.’ The long term effects are yet to be confirmed, but as most types of dermal filler are made using hyaluronic acid, the chances of side-effects are minimal as the acid is absorbed and disperses into the body.

In a recent interview with German OK! magazine, the stunning actress revealed she would never undergo the procedure in a bid to improve her complexion.

Reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, the 38-year-old Academy Award-winner also insisted that she would never indulge in “gimmicks of pure vanity”.

However, the Iron Man actress revealed she would not rule out corrective surgery after breastfeeding, revealing “nothing else” could restore their natural condition.

Well-known for her intensive work-out regimes, the demure blonde revealed that excessive yoga training almost made her lose her feminine figure.

“I somehow lost my waist because of intense yoga training and became almost boxy, but with stretching and Pilates exercises I hit form again,” she remarked.
She is set to feature alongside Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon and Kate Winslet in upcoming film Contagion, which will be released later this year.ADNFCR-2621-ID-800698065-ADNFCR

Has Sarah Harding had Botox?

Pop star Sarah Harding has failed to clarify whether or not she has had Botox. The jury is still out as to whether or not Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding has had Botox.

In an interview with Closer magazine, she was coy about her choices of anti-ageing products and cosmetic surgery, declining to confirm rumours that she has opted for lip fillers and Botox in the past.

"Never say never. I'll try most things once and I'm not against it, but I'd probably be against talking about it," she commented.

Harding said she often despairs when she sees unflattering photographs of herself in the newspapers, adding that she is "sure they do things to them".

As a result, the newly-engaged performer said she puts her guard up when she goes to London and is only relaxed in her country home in front of the log fire.

It was recently speculated that Gwyneth Paltrow might have had Botox after she was photographed looking wrinkle-free in Hollywood.

Has Gwyneth Paltrow had Botox?

Might Gwyneth Paltrow have had Botox? It has been rumoured that US film star Gwyneth Paltrow may have had Botox in a bid to keep her looking young.

The Iron Man actress got her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week and the press has since been speculating about whether or not her wrinkle-free face was down to a little help from the cosmetic treatment.

"Everyone was wondering if she'd had some work done. Her eyebrows were fixed and her cheeks seemed plumper than usual," a source told the Mirror.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail pointed out that even though she was smiling widely, Paltrow had no wrinkles around her eyes.

She has previously admitted to having beauty treatments using snake venom, but the actress has neither confirmed nor denied the use of Botox.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Simon Cowell had bought Botox vouchers for his fellow X Factor judges, including Louis Walsh.
