Dentists in the US are looking to improve sustainabilty.

A new sustainable certification programme has been launched in the US to highlight dental professionals who are doing all they can to boost their sustainability.

Sponsored by the Eco-Dentistry Committee, the new GreenDOC Dental Office Certification Program highlights surgeries that have met eight qualifications in order to achieve certification.

These are reducing waste, ensuring the office is in a sustainable location – ie an energy-efficient building – preventing pollution, involved in energy and water conservation, working alongside communities to boost sustainability, as well as providing leadership and innovation in the field.

So far, two dental practices have been certified: Pure Dental in Dallas, Texas and ORA Dental Studio in Chicago.

Elsewhere, USA Today recently reported up to a fifth of children in the US do not see a dentist every year.

Research carried out by the Pew Centre revealed most US states lack key policies to ensure children are provided with annual dental health check-ups.
