Winona Ryder reduces Botox use

06-05-2013
Mon

According to Closer magazine, Hollywood actress Winona Ryder has decided to reduce her Botox use in an effort to avoid looking ‘overdone’ in the future. At 41-years-old, there’s no denying that the star is looking very youthful, and that seems to have been thanks to Botox injections, at least in part, but now Winona is apparently embracing the aging process and is taking a break from the anti-wrinkle treatment.

Friends of the actress told Closer that Winona made the decision ‘after seeing the faces of other Hollywood stars,’ because she ‘realised she doesn’t want to look overdone and has cooled offer her Botox sessions.’ The source went on to say that the Edward Scissorhands star was worried that too much Botox would hinder her acting and stop her from being able to effectively form facial expressions, which would certainly impact her career in the long run. According to her friends, Winona was also concerned about the addictive nature of plastic surgery, especially in Hollywood, the source said; ‘The last thing she wants is a distorted face that affects her acting. She doesn’t want to get obsessive about it.’

As well as Botox injections Winona is rumoured to have undergone a breast augmentation operation and a rhinoplasty. In the past, she has spoken about using organic skincare products to keep her complexion youthful and soft.

Zoe Saldana talks surgery and Botox

01-05-2013
Wed

Actress Zoe Saldana is hitting the media circuit to gain publicity for her new film Star Trek; Into Darkness and she is now gracing the cover of UK InStyle magazine, talking about aging in Hollywood and how this affects her confidence. The 34-year-old admitted that she would consider cosmetic surgery in the future if she felt that her appearance was having a negative effect on her self-esteem.

‘I’d have Botox, honey’ the American star told the magazine, adding ‘It scares me that there are so many women unhappy with themselves, ashamed of themselves, of ageing, of being who they are. Because the only reason they’re hiding it is because they’re afraid of rejection or judgement. That’s external. You can reject me all you want, I’m ok with it. You can judge me all you want, I’m ok with myself.’

Zoe goes on to discuss her career and how it becomes difficult for women of a certain age to work in  Hollywood because of age prejudices, she says ‘Women are reminded of their age all the time and it’s usually by a fat, big-bellied old man with a comb-over and you look at him and you’re like, Really? Give me a break.’

Zoe seems to be happy with her appearance at the moment and showed off her naturally flawless complexion in a photo-shoot for the magazine, wearing minimal make-up, and showing off her perfect legs in a 60’s inspired wardrobe by Louis Vuitton.

Public at risk from unregulated Botox, says independent review

25-04-2013
Thu

According to a new review released under NHS medical director Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, people who undergo cosmetic injections to improve their skin have no more protection than someone buying a toothbrush. The filler and Botox market is currently worth almost £3bn, but experts are worried that the ‘explosive growth’ in treatments could be a ‘crisis waiting to happen’ if measures are not put in place to protect patients from unqualified practitioners.

The review, which was set up following the PIP breast implant scandal, calls for greater restrictions on advertising and for all clinics, NHS and private, to publish their complication rates. Dermal fillers are to be made available only through prescriptions and all practitioners have to have proof of their qualifications. Furthermore, it has been suggested that a private ombudsman should be appointed to deal with complaints about private medical care, which includes dermal filler injections.

Sir Bruce said ‘We have heard terrible reports about people who have trusted a cosmetic practitioner to help them but, when things have gone wrong, they have been left high and dry with no help. This needs to change.’

Health minister Dan Poulter was in agreement, saying ‘If anything good can come of the awful episodes like the PIP scandal, it is that the safety of the procedures that people may choose to undergo has been questioned. It is clear that it is time for the government to step in to ensure the public are properly protected. The independent panel has made some far-reaching recommendations – the principles of which I agree with entirely.’

Gwyneth Paltrow takes on Joan Rivers over Botox use

23-04-2013
Tue

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is not a fan of Botox and has even gone so far as to claim that the procedure made her look like ‘a crazy Joan Rivers’ after she had it done several years ago. The mother-of-two spoke about her beauty regime and did not rule out the possibility of facial surgery in the future, saying ‘I would be scared to go under the knife, but talk to me when I’m 50. I’ll try anything.’

However, the 40-year-old went on to say that she was not happy with the results of her Botox treatment and would not be trying it again anytime soon, commenting that she ‘looked crazy’ and comparing herself to American comedienne Joan Rivers – who is well known for her love of plastic surgery and facial treatments.

As well as anti-wrinkle injections, Gwyneth also underwent Thermage laser treatment, which she described as feeling ‘like someone’s smacking your face with a rubber band that has an electric shock in it.’ She added that she would try it again because it took years off her appearance and made her feel more confident in herself.

Although she is known for her healthy lifestyle, Gwyneth admitted that her vice is smoking, which she does once a week. She explained that ‘It’s what makes life interesting, finding the balance between cigarettes and tofu. My one light American Spirit that I smoke once a week, on Saturday night.’

Simon Cowell reveals his beauty regime

18-04-2013
Thu

X-Factor mogul Simon Cowell has revealed his extensive beauty regime that he carries out daily to try and fight the signs of aging and retain a youthful appearance. The 53-year-old spoke to the Radio Times about his routine, as he continues to split his time between London and LA, filming both Britain’s Got Talent and the US version of The X-Factor.

As well as doing hundreds of press-ups a day, Simon admits to using Botox regularly and taking lemon baths to soften and perfume his skin, and also taking vitamin injections administered by a nurse. The multi-millionaire goes to extraordinary lengths to try and stay young and when interviewed by newsreader Emily Maitlis, he said that the rumours were ‘all true’, adding that ‘not 500 push-ups, but several hundred.’

He went on to say ‘I work out three or four times a week, I have Botox, take tons of vitamins and vitamin infusions – if you believe that these things work, you will feel better.’ The talent judge is connected to an intravenous drip for half an hour to take in daily vitamin injections, which are a combination of B12, magnesium, and vitamin C.

The interview also reveals that Simon works to what he calls ‘vampire hours’, whereby he goes to bed at around 5am and doesn’t start his working day until after 3pm.

Kim Kardashian missing Botox during pregnancy

17-04-2013
Wed

Reality star Kim Kardashian is reportedly missing her regular Botox and filler treatments as she cannot get the facial injections during her pregnancy. The 32-year-old is six months pregnant and according to a source close to the Kardashian family, she is not feeling the pregnancy glow that many women experience, instead she is worrying about her appearance and the fact that she is falling behind with her facial treatments.

The source told Heat magazine that Kim is ‘struggling with her new, natural image. She doesn’t look in the mirror unless she has to.’ For someone whose whole career is based on the way she looks, it seems like the reality regular is having trouble maintaining a natural complexion, although it is best for her and the baby that she avoids Botox and fillers, at least until she gives birth.

Heat reports that Kim is ‘letting nature take over, but she doesn’t think she looks as pretty,’ despite the fact that boyfriend and father-to-be Kanye West tells her she is beautiful to try and boost her self-esteem. Before she fell pregnant, Kim underwent a strict beauty regime which included regular Botox injections and lip fillers to keep her looking young, now she is worried that she looks like ‘the old Kim’ and tries to distract herself with visits to the gym, to keep in shape during her pregnancy.

Martha Stewart talks about youthful appearance

25-03-2013
Mon

She might be over seventy but American business magnate Martha Stewart has found the perfect combination of exercise and cosmetic treatments to keep herself looking much younger than that. The well-known TV presenter has spoken to Allure magazine about her daily routine and use of facial injections, although she maintains that she has not had any invasive surgical operations.

Martha tells the magazine ‘I haven’t had facial surgery yet, but I did get Juvederm filler after my dog bashed my lip and split it open. I tried Botox. It works for certain things, like for skin under the chin, but I don’t want a taut jawline and a quizzical look.’

To try and help women make the best of their looks, Martha is releasing a book called Living the Good Long Life, a practical guide for people over the age of forty, which is due to hit bookshelves at the end of April.

As well as beauty treatments to keep her skin line and blemish free, Martha likes to take care of her hair; she tells Allure ‘My hair is actually thicker now and grows faster than it did probably 25 years ago. On the weekend, I don’t even like to brush it, I get screamed at by my daughter. And I don’t like hair spray.’

Is Gazza addicted to Botox after beating the booze?

20-03-2013
Wed

Former England football star Paul Gascoigne has been in the papers for all the wrong reasons lately, and now cosmetic experts fear that he has ditched the booze, only to find another vice – facial injections.

Top cosmetic surgeon Ross Perry told The Mirror that the former Spurs striker had a ‘very smooth, shiny forehead’ suggesting that ‘it is apparent Paul has had Botox injections, although it looks to have been slightly over done.’ When used correctly, Botox can smooth out wrinkles and create a more youthful complexion, but according to Dr Perry, addiction can become a problem if the patient has low self-esteem levels and believes that no amount of treatment can make them feel better about themselves. Dr Perry, who works at London’s Cosmedics skin clinic, added that it is up to the surgeon to tell the patient when enough is enough; ‘Potentially vulnerable patients need a medical professional who will say ‘no’ to treatments.’

Gascoigne – better known as Gazza – was released from a clinic in the US last week after going through rehabilitation for addictions to alcohol, laxatives, Red Bull, and even the children’s medication Calpol. A source close to the 45-year-old confirmed that ‘he’s off the bottle and drugs, Paul is back into the gym and is determined to clean himself up to regain his old chiselled look.’

Bradford Bulls stars undergo Botox treatment

13-03-2013
Wed

Three Rugby players have decided to get Botox injections to control their underarm sweating; Jarrod Sammu, Heath L’Estrange, and Adrian Purtell, who all play for Bradford Bulls, have gone under the needle at a Leeds clinic. Heath explained that he wanted the treatment so that he can enjoy social occasions ‘without bothering about sweating’. He also added that ‘A few of the lads get really sweaty and a couple have tried other ways of stopping it, like sprays, but nothing has worked.’

Despite the Rugby players’ tough image, Jarrod admitted that he did get nervous about the treatment before going ahead with it; fortunately, it seems that the Bulls had a positive experience. Jarrod said ‘You can’t actually feel the needle going in, just a bit of a dull feeling as the liquid goes in. It was the talking about it beforehand that was the worst part.’

The treatment costs over £400 and starts to take effect within a couple of weeks of the injections, which are administered to twenty sites in the armpits. Dr Rachael Kay, a GP at the Good Skin Days clinic in Leeds, said that pain was not usually a huge factor with this kind of treatment, commenting that ‘Most people will feel a slight scratch where the needle enters the skin and sometimes it’s a little bit uncomfortable as this is such a sensitive area of the body, but this is entirely temporary and should go away immediately after the treatment.’

Viewers questioning Olivia Newton-John’s appearance on chat show

12-03-2013
Tue

She’s back touring in the UK for the first time since 1978, but fans were left wondering what has happened to the delicate facial features of Grease star Olivia Newton-John, who was almost unrecognisable during an interview with Jonathon Ross at the weekend. Although she doesn’t have any wrinkles and looks in great shape for sixty-four, Olivia’s cheeks looked bloated and her facial structure had been altered – suggesting that the singer has perhaps overdone it with anti-wrinkle treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers.

Although she has always rejected the idea of having facial surgery, Olivia would be hard-pushed to deny that her appearance has change significantly since her hey-day in the hit musical Grease thirty-five years ago. Viewers were quick to voice their opinions on social networking site Twitter, with some expressing dismay that the star had received far too many facial injections to get rid of wrinkles.

One poster commented that Olivia had used ‘Way too much Botox and a few too many surgical procedures!’, whilst another mentioned that she ‘looks ridiculous’. While Botox and dermal fillers can be very effective when used in moderation, they are only a temporary solution to aging skin and are best used in smaller quantities to get a natural-looking result, without making the patient look like they have obviously had some sort of surgery. This means using only a tiny amount of the toxin to smooth out the skin.
