A new mobile bus brings dental care to primary schools in the Banbury area of Oxfordshire. The dental bus is run by Big Smiles and assisted by local dental practices.
The Banbury Guardian covered the story and saw the bus attending King’s Sutton Primary School. This was to provide education to children on how to look after their teeth and gums. Mrs. Palastanga, Head Teacher at the primary school, praised the initiative for having further reaching effects. Not just for dental health but also on the children’s mindset about a healthy diet and lifestyle. “It’s been a fantastic reception, they’ve been looking at everyday foods and sometimes foods and healthy eating.” This education has been through the use of activities, games, and 1-1 discussion.
The children have also benefitted from the experience of seeing a dental surgery and how it works. For some, this could be for the first time. Furthermore, the good news is that this initiative is a nation wide program, therefore, more and more schools should start reaping the benefits of the scheme in the near future.
