Charlie Sheen’s ‘new grill’ still needs some work

11-01-2012
Wed

TV actor Charlie Sheen was back in the news this week as he unveiled a brand new set of teeth, but his recent appearance at the Fox’s All-Star Party in Pasadena, California, left some of his fans wondering whether his dental work was just beginning.

Dressed casually in jeans and a blazer, the 46-year-old was grinning from ear to ear as he chatted with Anger Management’s executive producer, Bruce Helford, revealing at least one tooth that seemed to be a much whiter shade than the rest of them. Although Sheen’s smile is much improved, the ivory crown, that has replaced his infamous gold incisor, stood out starkly against his tanned face and newly dyed hair. It’s possible that the tooth is simply a temporary crown, put in place while a permanent one is prepared, or perhaps the TV star is planning to have the rest of his teeth whitened to match it.

Most of Charlie Sheen’s dental problems have been blamed on his abuse of substances during a very public firing and breakdown last year, but the father-of-five now insists he is ‘not crazy anymore’ and considers himself ‘mellower’. His cleaned up image could go some way to proving that, as he begins work on several TV and advertising projects. The actor claims he has turned over a new leaf, saying ‘That was an episode. I’m a different person than I was yesterday.’

The Saturday’s singer thanks dentist for emergency treatment

Girl group member Una Healy is no stranger to publicity, she’s part of one of the biggest girl-bands in Britain at the moment – The Saturday’s, and she recently announced that she was expecting her first child with Rugby player boyfriend Ben Foden, but she had to keep her winning smile out of the limelight for a few hours on Sunday, after she chipped one of her front teeth.

The 29-year-old was quick to call on her celebrity contacts for assistance when she knocked out piece of her tooth, enlisting the help of dentist-to-the-stars, Dr David Bloom. Dr Bloom has hit the tabloids in the past few months, when he was named as the surgeon behind X-Factor judge Tulisa’s new veneers, and he boasts several other big name clients. Like her fellow celeb, Una took to Twitter to thank the dentist, and she wasn’t afraid to mention his name outright – despite the hot water Tulisa found herself in for doing something similar.

‘Oh no, just knocked out a chip from my tooth filling!’ The Irish singer tweeted on Sunday night, before updating her fans just fourteen hours later, stating that the damage had been repaired; ‘Yay my tooth is all fixed up thanks for drdavidbloom.’ Dr Bloom might find a lot more business coming his way, thanks to the free advertising from his famous friends.

Charlie Sheen debuts new teeth

There’s no denying Charlie Sheen has had rough time of it in the past year or so – mostly of his own doing – but things are looking up for the troubled actor, and he’s got the smile to prove it. The 46-year-olds brand new teeth were on show today, after he posted a picture of himself and his dentist, Dr Kevin Sands, on his web page.

Just a few months back, Charlie was seen around Hollywood looking dishevelled, with wrinkly skin, badly dyed hair, and a decaying smile, complete with gold crowns – something which had previously been blamed on his substance abuse. The Two and a Half Men star also shocked his fans by indulging in drink and drugs, as well as keeping some strange company, and taking part in ill-advised television interviews, where he maintained that he was ‘winning’, rather than unravelling speedily in front of the world’s media. Now, it seems, he’s a changed man; his hair is much improved, his demeanour is calmer, and he described his experience in the dentist’s chair as ‘brilliant’. Dropping hints about his upcoming jobs, the actor plugged his treatment on his website, saying ‘today spent w/brilliant cosmetic dentist Dr Kevin Sands! The grill is now perfect for Fiat, DirectTV & Anger Management! Smile World!’

Charlie’s new sitcom Anger Management has been picked up by FX, and is based loosely on the 2003 movie of the same name.

Cindy Crawford raises eyebrows at sports event

Fri

Famous as a top supermodel in the eighties and nineties, you would think Cindy Crawford isn’t someone who has to worry about looking beautiful, but age catches up to everyone eventually, and the 45-year-old has often spoke about her love of cosmetic enhancement. The model recently stepped out with husband Rande to a basketball game in LA, with clear signs of Botox and dermal fillers.

Cindy’s cheekbones appear to have defied the years, instead of sinking and becoming flatter, they have beaten gravity and look fuller than ever. Cosmetic surgeon Nick Percival spoke to MailOnline and commented that ‘She has very well-defined cheekbones, which could suggest she has had some injectables to highlight these, and there appears to be no lines between her eyebrows, which could suggest she has had Botox in this area.’

There’s no denying that Ms Crawford looks good for her age, but there are obvious changes in her facial structure that are difficult to ignore. LA dermatologist Dr Behnam pointed out that she has the ‘triangle of beauty’, a facial alignment and proportion that is associated with youth, but he added that ‘she’s losing that triangle. It gives her that look of not being young anymore. Because that’s how we perceive youth, the triangle of beauty.’ However, not wanting to knock Cindy’s appearance, Dr Behnam added that ‘she still looks good for someone her age.’

Human Barbie gives her daughter surgery voucher for Christmas

Botox and liposuction are generally considered a cosmetic treatment for people wanting to look younger, but TV personality Sarah Burge has angered parents all over the country by presenting her seven-year-old daughter Poppy with a £7,000 plastic surgery voucher for Christmas. The overbearing mother is determined that her daughter is going to be famous when she grows up, and there’s no way she’s going to be doing it au natural.

‘I’m an associate of plastic surgery companies,’ said the 51-year-old, who became known as the ‘Human Barbie’ after spending over £500,000 on various surgical operations, as well as Botox injections and endless amounts of make-up. Ms Burge went on to say that she ‘decided that by taking advantage of my trade I would invest in my children’s future, with gifts of surgery vouchers.’

The mother of three seems to be instilling in her daughters that how you look is the most important thing in the world, a fact that was not missed by the UK media when they reported last year that she had been injecting her teenage daughter Hannah with Botox. The erotic novelist and former lap dancer considers herself a ‘TV star’ as well as ‘an international public figure’ but remains oblivious to the damage she is doing, saying ‘There has  been a ridiculous amount of media hype and I want it to end.’

LA doctor attacks French First Lady for overuse of Botox

04-01-2012

When appropriately used, dermal fillers and Botox can turn back the clock and get rid of unsightly wrinkles, but clearly skin expert Dr Ben Behnam is in no mood to sing its praises, after he recently launched a scathing attack on France’s First Lady Carla Bruni for her over-indulgence in the treatment.

‘She has had way too much done’ Dr Behnam told The Daily Mail, ‘That’s why she has the surprised look on her face and she looks like a chipmunk.’ But the LA dermatologist didn’t stop there, he went on to say that the 44-year-old appeared to have had a lateral brow lift and dermal fillers injected into her cheeks to reduce wrinkles. ‘The tiny shadows you can just see beneath her nose were probably caused by injectable fillers to get rid of nose-to-mouth lines.’ He said.

The former supermodel is famed for her good looks and flawless skin, but according to Dr Behnam she is in danger of falling into the trap of looking like every other Botox-ed celebrity. ‘A lot of celebrities these days look the same’, he said, before giving Carla and her famous friends some advice on how to maintain a smooth complexion, without overdoing it. ‘What they should do is just do a little bit so it just makes them look like a younger version of themselves, rather than a 50-year-old trying to look 25.’

Daniel Craig jokes about getting Botox

23-12-2011
Fri

He might be the new face of James Bond, but Daniel Craig is not immune to the stresses and strains of life as a Hollywood actor. The 43-year-old recently admitted to the press that he might need facial fillers if he keeps up his hefty work schedule.

The British actor is currently the big name behind two huge film franchises, he’s playing 007 in the fourth Bond instalment, and he has just attended the premier of the first of a forthcoming trilogy, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which also stars rising actress Rooney Mara. When asked about his workload, Daniel admitted that it could sometimes be heavy going, he joked ‘I’m going to be very old. Botox is going to be in there!’

Aging doesn’t seem to have been a problem for the A-lister as his career has gone from strength to strength over the past five years. He went on to talk about his new films, saying ‘We’ll see how Dragon Tattoo does… This is something I really believe in… I’ve just got to find time to live and that’s kind of the only thing that really matters.’

It remains to be seen whether he will take advantage of anti-aging measures after his film commitments are over, but at the moment he seems to be content with making some time for his new wife, Rachel Weisz, whom he married in a private ceremony in June this year.

Women adding Botox to their Christmas wish-lists

21-12-2011
Wed

This year, it’s not perfume, earrings, or bubble bath that women are putting on their Christmas lists, it’s Botox and tummy tucks, according to the ABC. Cosmetic enhancement procedures are more popular than ever during the holiday season – thanks to celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, who recently admitted she had tried the wrinkle-reducing treatment.

Women in the US and the UK are ever more willing to spend money on each other as the New Year approaches, setting aside large amounts to give their friends and family members a boost before they welcome in 2012. It seems that cosmetic surgeons will find themselves increasingly busy over the festive season, as more and more women ask for procedures to make themselves look and feel younger.

One woman even forked out several hundred pounds for Botox injections for her sister, despite the fact she considered it ‘a little crazy’ and didn’t think she even really needed it. Another patient wanted surgery on her crow’s feet and forehead lines, explaining that she would use the filler ‘to soften, but not to freeze.’ And these women are not alone, in the US, the $15,000 ‘mommy makeover’ is becoming the norm among the wealthy inhabitants of Orange County, the procedure includes Botox injections, a tummy tuck, and a breast augmentation.

Teeth whitening should be left to the professionals

21-12-2011
Wed

According to experts at the British Dental Foundation, people wanting to emulate their favourite celebrities with a pearly white grin should leave the job to the professionals, rather than purchasing a DIY kit and having a go themselves. Dental adviser for the BDF, Karen Coates, has commented that take-home products are not very effective and the procedure should be carried out by a qualified individual.

Ms Coates said that kits purchased over the counter from cosmetic stores and pharmacies contained less that 0.1% hydrogen peroxide, a tiny amount that couldn’t possible hope to break down deep staining. They can also put the teeth at risk of heightened sensitivity or enamel erosion, with sustained use. Professional grade whitening solutions contain much more bleach, in some cases upwards of 20%, but it wouldn’t be safe to allow to public to try the procedure on themselves; with such a high peroxide content, the potential for disaster is greater.

Ms Coates went on to talk about the kinds of things that could stain the enamel – even after a whitening treatment, naming curry, tea, coffee and red wine as the main culprits. She also added that if people would still rather carry out teeth whitening at home, they should make sure the product they select has the BDF’s logo on the packaging, which indicates that there are no harmful acids or abrasives inside.

Rumours swirl about Russian PM’s Botox use

19-12-2011
Mon

Russian Prime-Minister Vladimir Putin has displayed a suspiciously smooth and wrinkle-free face over the past few years, but this week the rumour mill went into overdrive as the 59-year-old debuted a freshly smoothed forehead and rosy cheeks at the annual question and answer TV show, where he spoke to the Russian population live. Following his appearance, Twitter was flooded with viewers wondering what had changed about his face.

The question over Putin’s use of Botox injections was first put forward in October when he showed up to a Kiev meeting sporting a bruise around one of his eyes, a spokesperson denies use of any cosmetic enhancement, saying ‘It’s probably just how the light fell, the Prime Minister is tired.’ However, that wasn’t enough to quash the rumours among the Russian media, who questioned outright their leaders changing appearance, the New Time magazine asked plainly; ‘What has happened with Putin’s face?’

Plastic surgeons commented on his appearance, suggesting that he had probably had some kind of cosmetic surgery, most likely Botox injections around his forehead to get rid of frown lines, dermal fillers into his cheeks to make them look plumper and rosier, and possibly an eye lift on his lower lids, to make him appear more youthful. Putin may be hoping to boost his public profile after announcing in September that he would be standing for re-election next year.
