Braces are becoming more commonplace.

There has been a dramatic increase in the number of people who have had braces fitted over the last ten to 15 years, it has been claimed.

Dr Peter Gold from Orthodontics for Adults in Toronto said in particular, men have become more interested in the aesthetics of their teeth, with many choosing to have treatments such as Invisalign braces to help straighten any crooked gnashers, according to Metro News Toronto.

“Braces used to be one-size-fits-all. More and more, we have custom solutions for each patient. Instead of braces being off-the-shelf, they are tuned for each person,” commented Dr Gold.

Elsewhere, research from the British Lingual Orthodontic Society recently revealed a fifth of Brits would now consider wearing braces in order to give them a better smile.

This news comes after a number of celebrities admitted to wearing braces in order to improve the appearance of their smile, including X Factor judge and Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole.
