Royal wedding fan gets cosmetic dentistry ahead of big day

Man undergoes cosmetic dentistry for royal weddingA man from Bristol has spent £1,000 on cosmetic dentistry work ahead of the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton this week.

According to Dentistry.co.uk, Baz Franks, a 29-year-old plumber from Bristol, has had tattoos of the prince and his bride put on his two front teeth.

The source said that the cosmetic dentistry work – which features black and white headshot images of the happy couple – took around six hours and saw the tattoos painted on to Mr Franks's teeth using a stencil and brush.

Only temporary, the cosmetic dentistry work can be removed with vigorous brushing and will last around three months.

Before trying to get the teeth tattoos off, Mr Franks may want to follow the advice of toothpaste firm Colgate. According to the company, the best way to brush teeth is to clean the outer surfaces first, then the inner surfaces, the chewing surfaces and then the tongue.

Gentle brush strokes should be used and teeth should be brushed for at least two minutes, the firm noted.ADNFCR-2621-ID-800515004-ADNFCR

Cosmetic dentistry could be discussed at drop-in sessions

Drop-in sessions for families could see cosmetic dentistry discussionsParents in Milton Keynes were this week invited to take their children to a drop-in session, an event which could be ideal for those seeking advice on cosmetic work for youngsters.

According to the Cosmetic Dentistry Guide, the clinic was held earlier this week and was aimed at parents and children who are not registered with an NHS dentist in the Milton Keynes area.

Among the items on offer were fluoride treatments that can help to protect teeth after a check-up and children were also given new toothbrushes to make sure they are not brushing their mouth with an unhygienic brush.

Mel Foxall, from the Oral Health Promotion Team, noted the benefits of drop-in sessions for promoting good dental hygiene from a young age.

One person who might have been paying particular care to her teeth this week – and who has been known to have cosmetic dentistry work in the past – is Kate Middleton, who will walk down the aisle tomorrow (April 29th) to marry Prince William. ADNFCR-2621-ID-800514831-ADNFCR

More people looking to teeth whiteningTeeth whitening is a procedure on "everyone's wish list", it has been noted in a poll of cosmetic dentists.

According to an American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry survey published on DrBicuspid.com, the popularity of teeth whitening procedures has been on the rise and they look likely to remain a common choice for people in 2011.

Dental assistant and clinical editor at CPS magazine Shannon Pace Brinker said that in her practice, the cosmetic dentists are "doing more whitening than ever before" and that over the past year, she has carried out more than 400 teeth whitening treatments.

The poll showed that teeth whitening is particularly popular among women, with 65 per cent of people who had the treatment last year being female, the poll revealed.

Orthodontist Dr Didier Fillion recently told the Evening Standard of the benefits of cosmetic dentistry and commented that "society judges by appearance". One of his most high-profile clients is future wife of Prince William, Kate Middleton.  ADNFCR-2621-ID-800514814-ADNFCR

Orthodontist extols virtues of cosmetic dentistryOrthodontist Dr Didier Fillion has extolled the virtues of cosmetic dentistry when it comes to achieving the perfect smile.

French-born Dr Fillion, whose high-profile patients include future queen Kate Middleton, said there are many treatments and procedures available for people eager to improve their confidence with a winning smile.

"We can always improve how people look," he told the Evening Standard. "We can always improve how people look.

"The goal is to create the most beautiful smile possible. Society judges us by appearance. If it's a choice between two people, one with a nice smile and the other with an ugly one, well."

Dr Fillion, who shares the London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic with Dr Asif Chatoo, is known for this invisible braces technique and has also pioneered 3D digital technology to enable patients to design their own smiles.

The 3D technique allows the brackets of the brace to be placed in the exact position they need to be on each tooth. ADNFCR-2621-ID-800513397-ADNFCR

Ronnie Wood 'has had cosmetic dentistry'Musician Ronnie Wood has admitted to undergoing cosmetic dentistry to brighten his smile.

The 63-year-old Rolling Stones band member revealed he opted for the treatment to give his teeth a youthful glow, the Guardian reports.

Admitting in an interview that he has had tooth veneers fitted, the bass player revealed the dentists had given him slightly stained fittings to give the teeth a natural look.

He said: "I had them done a few years ago; they trimmed the actual teeth down a bit and put these veneers on top."

The British rocker also revealed his Rolling Stones bandmate Keith Richards had used superglue to attach a veneer back to his tooth – which would not be recommended by dental experts.

An increasing number of men are choosing to undergo cosmetic dentistry to improve their confidence through gaining whiter teeth.

Increase in Botox parties ‘could lead to unqualified practitioners’

Increase in Botox parties 'could lead to unqualified practitioners'People hosting Botox parties with friends are more likely to be receiving treatment from an unqualified practitioner, an expert has claimed.

Consumers could be put at risk when receiving at-home treatments due to unhygienic conditions and possible untrained specialists, claims the Independent Healthcare Advisory Service's Sally Taber.

People considering undergoing Botox treatment should consider their own safety when selecting an institution or practitioner to perform the treatment, Ms Taber reports in the Sun.

Consumers have been advised to be wary of the increased number of beauty consultants calling themselves advanced aesthetic practitioners in a bid to appear professionally qualified to perform the procedure.

Ms Taber told the newspaper: "A practitioner must not only demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of facial anatomy and best clinical practice but also the ability to manage complications such as swelling or an allergic reaction."

This news comes after a number of medical firms were found to be allowing staff to perform Botox treatment on customers after just half a day of training on an orange, the Daily Mail reportsADNFCR-2621-ID-800511761-ADNFCR

Tooth whitening ‘may be adversely affected by mouthwash’

Tooth whitening 'may be adversely affected by mouthwash'People who have undergone tooth whitening procedures may be surprised to hear that mouthwash can actually damage teeth.

According to professor of restorative dentistry at Newcastle University Robin Seymour, some solutions can have an adverse affect on the mouth if used too frequently, the Daily Mail reports.

Many products contain alcohol, which Mr Seymour suggested can be very problematic.

The presence of alcohol in the mouth can cause it to dry out and this can often lead to bad breath, while some mouthwashes can stain the teeth.

It has also been said that certain brands do not react well with toothpaste and sometimes the use of mouthwash can undo all of the cleaning work done by the paste.

A study published in the Dental Journal of Australia in 2009 showed that mouthwash could potentially increase the likelihood of developing oral cancer.

Some people may also find they are allergic to the fluid and last month, dental patient Sacha Rumaner died during an appointment at a Brighton practice after suffering a reaction to mouthwash.ADNFCR-2621-ID-800497038-ADNFCR

Cosmetic dentistry news: Teeth reshaping ‘can improve smile’

Cosmetic dentistry news: Teeth reshaping 'can improve smile'People choosing to undergo cosmetic dentistry to reshape their gums or teeth will see their smile greatly improved, according to an expert.

Altering the dimensions of a person's teeth or gums can lead to a more attractive smile, said Kirk Kimmerling, a cosmetic dentist from a clinic in the US.

Teeth reshaping can improve cracked or crooked teeth caused by grinding. However, minor damage can also be reversed using the technique, which in most cases does not require the use of an anaesthetic.

Gums can also be trimmed to create a more attractive and well balanced smile, with experts recommending that the tissue at the front should be at the same height as that of the canines.

Celebrities such as Jodie Marsh and Cheryl Cole have opted for cosmetic dentistry to give them a dazzling smile.

Dr Kimmerling advised people to ensure their teeth and gums are healthy before choosing to undergo cosmetic dental procedures. ADNFCR-2621-ID-800486522-ADNFCR
